AS we enjoy the transition from winter to summer so comes the change of sports.

Before I sign out for the year, I reflect on netball currently.

All grassroots (local) associations are working towards building member numbers and participants.

Getting children active, enjoying fresh air, interaction and developing skills whilst making friends with local peers, is soimportant for our young ones.

The proven benefits assist our next generation in so many ways. Not just whilst at the sport; these benefits carry through to many areas of their lives.

I encourage all children to play sport, naturally netball is the best but others will suffice (I says cheekily). Healthy minds, bodies and attitudes will flow due to sport.

The excitement is building as the new home of netball in Queensland (Brisbane) draws closer to opening for business.

The new $44 million multi-court venue and home of the Queensland Firebirds and Netball Queensland headquarters is on target for an early 2019 completion.

This is a fantastic facility for our state and netball now and into the future.

Also on a State level but closer to home; the 16 and 18 years state titles will be hosted by the Darling Downs Region at USQ courts on October 4-6.

The state's top players, including Warwick's Caitlin Skaines, will vie for an elite end to the year and season.

The Australian Diamonds continue preparations for the 2019 Netball World Cup in England.

A successful win in the recent Quad Series has been a great procure to the upcoming Diamonds verses New Zealand Silver Ferns Constellation Cup series.

On the local scene, the mixed social netball competition is being played Monday and Tuesday nights at WIRAC. There are 24 teams

I look forward to a wonderful finish for 2018 and great 2019 netball season. See you next year.
