Southern Downs residents are urged to be aware of an alleged online scam targeting vulnerable locals while pretending to be a trusted local business.

An online scam allegedly masking as local transport and removals businesses Cahill Furniture Removals and Rose City Removals has been reportedly swindling locals in a fraudulent website.

Cahills Furniture Removals is based in Warwick and operates across the Darling Downs as well as Central Queensland, Wide Bay and throughout Queensland.

A source close to the business said the personal, financial and business stress has exploded and resulted in a loss of revenue.

The Cahills business has been a stalwart in the Rose City for more decade, sponsoring a raft of local sports teams, both junior and senior, as well as being a notable sight on our region’s roads.

A partner business, Rose City Removals, has also been targeted with false pages allegedly impersonating the well-known brand.

The source confirmed thousands had been lost in lost revenue and resulted in significant stress.

“The blow to the business’ reputation has been huge- it has mentally and emotionally cost the business,” the source said.

The scam involves multiple false websites, notably with AI generated logos and crudely edited photos of trucks with a Cahill’s logo on them.

Likely, the scam sites will appear first in a search online, and the business says the best way to get in contact is via text or email.

The source said the business had built up a trusted reputation in the community, and urged residents to realise despite the impersonator, there is only one Cahills.

“It’s not funny. (They’ve) lost a (significant per cent) of the business,” the source said.

Local police said they were unaware of any reports of the scam but urged locals to remain vigilant.

The business will urge locals to not trust any website or profile, and the only way to contact the business is 0455 833 770 or via email at cahillfurnitureremovals12@gmail.com.
