A Warwick business is swapping the lagers for lattes and the frothies for flat whites in a surprising new venture. The beer baron spills the beans on his next move.

A pair of Warwick beer barons are trading the frothies for flat whites in a new business venture, which is expected to open very soon.

The brains behind the Rose City’s craziest drinking establishment, which has showcased both local and state craft brews since opening in August last year, have announced they will expand into another beverage market.

The team from Psycho Suzie’s Brewing will open a 250sq m coffee shop, called Holy Grounds Coffee, out of their brewhouse in 2024.

Psycho Suzie’s co-owner Dean Alsford moved to Warwick from Melbourne five years ago with his partner Tamika, and opened their first business in town, a brewery on Fitzroy St.

“Everyone does it the same, what we see is to be to be different and to stand out. We like to do stuff that’s unique to us and do it our own way,” Mr Alsford said.

Mr Alsford said he was keen on expanding into the coffee market, with the Suzie’s business running smoothly, and a plethora of expert hospo experience under the team’s belt.

“We’re at a point where we have a solid local customer base, and I have 15 years experience in the game, including working in three Michelin star kitchens,” he said.

“I know cafes really well and how to make them unique, Warwick feels like it is missing something, and we want to do it our way and stand out.”

Going in to open Holy Grounds, the Alsfords have two main goals, including keeping the price point as low as possible, and have a consistent high-quality food and drink output.

“Our goal is to be a tier above, that is consistently the best that can be done,” he said.

The team has already acquired their speciality coffee machine which will set the store apart from the rest, which Mr Alsford dubs “the Lamborghini of coffee makers”.

Holy Grounds will be operated out of the already established Brewing premise, with the opening hours to be changed for Holy Grounds in the morning before shifting to Suzie’s from lunch.

And yes, there will be “boozy brunches”.

“To open at another location, and do food, we’d be competing with ourselves, we have the venue already and will be opening earlier before the brewery,” Mr Alsford said.

The about 100 capacity venue was the business’ first expansion since opening in 2022, with Mr Alsford saying “you never know what will happen in the future, who knows what will happen in 2024”.

“I have a golden rule: everything is harder until it’s easy, when it’s easy you need to push again, maybe we will expand but I’m not too sure,” he said.

Holy Grounds is expected to be open at the Psycho Suzie’s Brewing location on Fitzroy St from January, 2024.

“We know our food, we know our coffee and we know our service, we’re ready,” he said.

Until it opens, enjoy a world-class Warwick Bitter at their CBD location, or check the business out on Facebook.
