Warwick police are on the hunt for thieves who cracked open a gun safe and made off with a stack of the weapons inside in a brazen burglary and another several residents are now set to face court after a fresh spate of crime this week.

Thieves forced their way into a shed on a Leslie Dam Rd property some time between August 4 and 16, breaking into a locked gun safe stored inside the outbuilding and stealing at least six rifles.

Warwick police acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Cameron Slater said the burglars also took several personal items stored in the shed, including jewellery and clothing.

He said the burglary was reported just days before thieves broke into the Southern Downs Regional Council depot off Yangan Rd overnight on Thursday, forcing entry into a number of parked trucks and stealing tools left inside.

Both incidents remain under investigation and no charges have been laid at this stage.

A 31-year-old man is expected to appear in court on several charges this week after he was allegedly caught red-handed in a bizarre theft attempt at Rose City Shoppingworld.

Sergeant Slater said police officers were patrolling the Warwick shopping centre on Thursday morning when they received reports the man was allegedly leaving Coles without paying for the seafood he had just ordered at the deli.

“He was detained and removed two deli packages from his tracksuit pants,” he said.

Police will allege the man was also carrying a pocket knife on his person at the time.

The 31-year-old was charged with one count each of stealing and possessing a knife in a public place, and will be remanded in custody until his appearance in Warwick Magistrates Court this week.

Another Warwick man will soon be before the courts after he was allegedly busted with drugs and utensils in his home.

Police raided a Willi St house at about 11am Thursday, where they allegedly discovered several clip seal bags with a white crystal substance believed to be meth and a glass pipe.

The 52-year-old was charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs and possessing drug utensils, and is due to appear in the Warwick court on September 19.
