Southern Downs crime wrap: List of serious alleged offences in Warwick streets this week

The Rose City’s streets have seen a spate of alleged serious crimes in the past week leaving Warwick police calling out for public assistance. See the full crime wrap here.

The Rose City has bared witness to another week of alleged serious offences from weapons offences, drink and drug driving, and threatening behaviour.

Weapons offences

• A 30-year-old Warwick man has been charged with going armed to cause fear and related charges after police located the man hiding in bushes on Albion St.

A witness earlier saw a vehicle that the 30-year-old was a passenger in driving along Bunker Ave with the vehicle’s lights off and firearms were alleged to have been seen out of the vehicle’s window.

A 47-year-old Warwick man was later charged with going armed to cause fear and possession of a shortened weapon related to the same incident.

The 30-year-old man has been remanded in custody and the 47-year-old man will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court later this month.

• Two Warwick men, a 33-year-old and 48-year-old, have been charged with threatening violence and possession of a replica handgun after an incident broke out at Lyons St around 8pm on Wednesday.

Yelling and threats were allegedly heard by witnesses and the two men are alleged to have approached the Lysons St residence and again made threats through the front door.

Both men will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court in January 2024.

Traffic accident

• A midmorning crash occurred at the intersection of Wood and Wallace streets, which saw two vehicles that were travelling in opposite directions collide.

One driver was transported to Warwick Hospital and police investigations are ongoing.

Drink, drug drivers

• A 19-year-old Pratten man has been charged with driving while a relevant substance was present in his system after he allegedly tested positive to a road side drug test on Condamine St about 9.20am Friday morning. He will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court.

• A 49-year-old Warwick man allegedly tested positive to a road side drug test on Rose St about 8.15pm on Friday. He was charged with driving while a relevant substance was present in his system and will appear before Warwick Magistrates Court.

• A 68-year-old Warwick man allegedly tested positive to a random breath test on Matthew Jones Drive, returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.083 and will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court.

• A 23-year-old Clifton man was stopped for a random breath test on Victoria St and allegedly returned a positive blood alcohol reading of 0.083. He will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court in January 2024.

Appeals for public information

• Police are continuing investigations after another graffiti offence was reported at Mile End Park public toilets. It is alleged the public toilets were spray painted sometime between November 24 and 27. Police are appealing to the public for any information in relation to these offences against public council property.
