Bike versus roo: Rider injured in shock crash near Leyburn

A motorcyclist was thrown from their bike after crashing into a kangaroo on the Southern Downs.

A motorcycle rider is in serious but stable condition following a single vehicle crash involving a kangaroo east of Leyburn, on the Southern Downs.

The woman was travelling along Leyburn Cunningham Road about 11.30am on Saturday, May 20, when her bike crashed into a kangaroo, throwing her from the bike and down an embankment.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said the woman was transferred to hospital via a rescue helicopter.

“She is in serious but stable condition,” she said.

The spokeswoman said the woman was experiencing pain in her shoulder, ribs, abdomen, pelvis, legs, and back.

The crash occurred about 15km east of Leyburn near Old Talgai, and about an hour’s drive south of Toowoomba.
