There’s a bundle of workforce skills opportunities for the Southern Downs and wider region that’s allowing community members to make a difference.
Warwick woman Kristyann Clayton is one of many successful graduates of Gateway to Training’s free courses, and she is now about to embark on a rewarding career venture.
Ms Clayton was ready for a treechange and coincidentally heard about Gateway to Training while visiting the hairdresser.
“I wanted to start a new career as a support worker or personal carer,” she said.
“I had a call-centre background, but wanted to work where I could develop lasting connections with clients and make a real difference.”
As part of the Steady, Ready, Go program Ms Clayton completed a Certificate III in Community Services in 2023.
Presently working in administration at Blue Care in Warwick, Ms Clayton is soon to transition into a role as a personal carer this month.
With locations across Warwick, Stanthorpe, Goondiwindi and St George, Ms Clayton said she benefited greatly from onsite training.
“It’s so much more engaging than online learning,” she said.
The not-for-profit is targeted at assisting rural and regional businesses and communities to help them prosper.
On offer are a range of short courses including accredited and non-accredited, as well as job ready training to help community members start their journey into the workforce, returning to work or looking to enhance their skills.
