SOUTHERN Downs Regional Council has put to bed speculation that it has already begun carting water from outside the area.

Rumours were swirling that the council was trucking water from Coolmunda Dam, near Inglewood, to Warwick's Connolly Dam.

But the council refutes those claims, labelling it "disappointing misinformation”.

"Southern Downs Regional Council is not carting water from Coolmunda to Connolly Dam,” an SDRC spokesperson said.

"Accessing the water from Coolmunda Dam would require the construction of a standpipe.

"Additionally, council would need to have a contract in place to purchase the water, which it does not.

"It is disappointing that this sort of misinformation is being circulated in the community, particularly when the community is under considerable stress.”

The council is, however, inviting contractors to apply for a Preferred Supplier Arrangement to undertake water carting across the region.
