A new hairdressing business looking to combine high-quality styling and service with affordability and convenience is bound for Warwick, with only a few weeks to go until its doors open to the community.
Warwick couple Isa Hagstrom and Krystle Austin are bringing the Just Cuts brand to town, with their new store set to open up in Rose City Shoppingworld next to existing retailers Black Pepper and Flavio Nails and Spa.
The pair say they are focused on providing a one-stop shop for families and busy people on the go, with no appointments necessary and a fixed pricing system with extra discounts for seniors or students designed to work around Warwick residents’ time and economic demands.
“We don’t really have anything like Just Cuts here. I’ve got a stepson and I’ve got a daughter, and there’s not one place I can take them and get a haircut myself,” Mr Hagstrom said.
“It’s not going to be competition to those home salons. It’s mainly the foot traffic in the shopping centre, you pop in and get a haircut for everybody – it could be a baby’s first haircut, or it could be their great-grandparent’s haircut.
“It’s one of those staple things, like you go in on a Sunday or a Thursday night and you know you can get a haircut, because times are obviously changing out here and we want to give it a nudge in the right direction and make sure we’re open.”
The new venture is something of a homecoming for the couple, who grew up as classmates in Warwick and went on to reconnect several years later, and have now brought their family back to the Rose City.
They already own a successful private hairdressing business on the Gold Coast, and hope to bring a wealth of experience from other industries from Mr Hagstrom’s previous work as a chef and Ms Austin’s current role as a farm household case officer.
Mr Hagstrom said their Warwick store would be fitted out with six styling chairs, two wash basins and plenty of waiting room, with plans to hire between four and six qualified stylists from within the community.
He said their team hoped to be up and running by late September or early October and would line up an exciting grand opening day for the business.
“Growing up here, we know Warwick really well and we know what’s involved. We want to be active members of the community and show everybody this is a great service,” Mr Hagstrom said.
“I think country people here want what the city people have, they want that service, and it’s just something I really think is going to help serve the community here.
Rose City Shoppingworld marketing manager Louise de Lissa said Just Cuts would be just one of a stack of changes at the shopping centre in coming months, with a new tenant already lined up to replace TSG Lotto Express.
“The newsagency has relocated elsewhere in town at the end of their lease, and we are finalising a new tenant for this space currently,” she said.
“By the end of the year, we are confident that the other two vacancies left in the centre will be filled with some very exciting offers as well. This will complete the mix.”
While the nature of the business set to take over the space previously occupied by grocer Pickle and Must remains a mystery at this stage, previous reports have indicated a bakery could again take over the vacant lot next to Rose City Fruits.
