A Warwick couple have revealed they’re planning to open a new food shop in town, unlike anything the Rose City has seen before.
With plenty of businesses opening or planning to open in the new year, Karlien and Rowland Engelbrecht have upped the ante with a relatively obscure cuisine to captivate the curious.
The couple’s restaurant is set to celebrate all things South Africans and are excited to bring a taste of the nation to town.
From biltong, boerewors, South African products and gifts before expanding into serving traditional dishes, Warwick residents will have an exciting opportunity to try a new culinary delight.
The couple previously owned a similar business in Brisbane before relocating to Warwick a year ago.
“Our business went really well there, so we thought we could give it a go here, and I’m already seeing positive feedback at the moment,” Mr Engelbrecht said.
“People will embrace it and be open to it, I think, were planning to go for all markets, not just food but gifts as well.
Rowland Engelbrecht said they were planning on targeting not just South Africans in the region, but broader Australians of all types and anticipate they will enjoy the tastes of the country.
The couple are two of many who have decided to call Warwick home in recent years.
“Traditional South African food has many must-haves, I could keep on going forever, you must have a taste, especially if you’re a meat-eater,” Mr Engelbrecht said.
“Give it a go, you most likely will like it.”
African Safari will open on Palmerin Street, Warwick, in early 2023.
