A traffic stop near the southern Queensland border has foiled a major illicit drug operation said to be worth millions.
Operation Whiskey Whisper, led by Hendra CIB, was set up to investigate the importation and dealing of cocaine and methylamphetamine between Sydney, Brisbane, and surrounds.
A Queensland Police spokesman said detectives stopped a vehicle travelling along the New England Highway near Wallangarra on October 28, where a search of the vehicle located 30kg of methylamphetamine concealed in tea packaging.
Detectives further allege a search warrant of a Murrarie property located money counters, drug packaging and other dangerous drugs including ice and steroids.
The QPS spokesman said a 33-year-old Bahrs Scrub man has been charged with four counts of possess anything used in commission of crime and possess schedule 4 and schedule 8 medicines.
The man has also been charged with one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs over schedule 4, supply dangerous drugs, possess dangerous drugs, posses property suspected, and fail to dispose needles.
Detective Inspector John Mison said in a press release that the operation had removed a significant quantity of drugs from our streets.
“Illicit drugs have no place in our community, and Queensland Police will continue to do all we can to target trafficking and possession to keep the community safe,” he said.
The 33-year-old was remanded in custody and is expected to reappear before Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on February 12, 2025.
