Tennis champ Ash Barty announces second baby on Christmas

In an adorable Christmas message to her fans on social media, Queensland tennis champ Ash Barty has revealed her family is expanding.

Tennis champ Ash Barty has revealed her family is expanding in an adorable social media Christmas post.

The three-time grand slam champion and former world number one, who retired at just 25 to pursue a quieter family life, is expecting her second child with husband, Garry Kissick.

Her first son, Hayden, who is just over 18 months, featured in the post, with his back to the camera, in front of the Christmas tree with a t -shirt on that read, “I am going to be a big brother”.

The 28-year-old has released a memoir, written a children’s book and taken on various ambassador roles since her retirement.

The due date of the new bub is unknown, with the post kept short and sweet with a caption of, “Merry Christmas from our growing family to yours”.

Barty will once again be seen on Pat Rafter Arena at the Brisbane International this December.

Barty, who established the Ash Barty Foundation in January 2024 to inspire, educate and provide opportunities for the next generation of Australians through sport and education, will head a charity showcase on the first day of the tournament alongside Pat Rafter.

The showcase, which will be held on Sunday December 29.

Friends flocked to the comments to congratulate Barty on the announcement.

“Oh whaaat!! Awesome news, congrats!!,” said Australian championship surfer Stephanie Gilmore.

“What???!! Omg congrats beauty,” said comedian Tanya Hennessey.

Barty grew up in Ipswich but has spent the past couple years on the Gold Coast with her husband and son, opting for a quieter life following her shock retirement from tennis.

Since retirement Barty has continued her role as Tennis Australia’s National Indigenous Tennis Ambassador, providing opportunities for young Indigenous players to get into the sport.

“It will be a lot of fun to hit on the court with Pat Rafter and friends for the charity match and to meet many young tennis fans,” Barty said.
