A young woman has died after an incident at Bulcock Beach on the southern Sunshine Coast.

Triple-0 calls were received about 3.45pm Sunday, January 22, after reports a woman in her late-teens or early-20s had been pulled from the water off The Esplanade, Caloundra.

A Queensland Police spokesman confirmed a 27-year-old woman from Brisbane suburb Zillmere has passed away after drowning at a beach in Caloundra this afternoon.

The spokesman said attempts were made to revive the woman but she was later declared deceased.

The spokesman said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokeswoman said the woman had tragically died after being pulled from the water by members of the public at the popular Bulcock Beach.

The spokeswoman said lifesavers from the Ithaca-Caloundra City Life Saving Club – a Royal Life Saving Society Queensland Inc affiliate independent of Surf Life Saving Australia – were the first to respond.

Lifesavers from nearby Metropolitan-Caloundra Surf Life Saving Club rushed to assist and CPR was started on the shoreline.

The spokeswoman said paramedics arrived and began attempts to revive the woman, but she sadly passed away at the scene.

Surf Life Saving Queensland Sunshine Coast regional manager Aaron Purchase said the woman tragically passed away after members of the public spotted her unresponsive in the water at nearby Happy Valley beach in Caloundra.

He said his team assisted paramedics, but, “unfortunately, their attempts were unsuccessful”.

It comes as a search for a missing swimmer off Teewah Beach was suspended for the night, with efforts to start again at first light Monday with lifesaving helicopters and drones to be used in a bid to find a 21-year-old man who went missing during a swim about 5pm Saturday.

Updates to come.
