The developer of a Sunshine Coast hinterland farmstay says he is bringing “the farm back to the city” with construction of the 132-site tourist park underway.

The developer of a Sunshine Coast farmstay near Woombye is aiming to open the first stage of accommodation early next year.

A development application for Sixty6 Acres at Diddillibah Rd, Woombye, was given the green light at the Sunshine Coast Council meeting in August.

The $10m farmstay will comprise 132 sites for camping, cabins, caravans and glamping along with a recreation centre, pool, kiosk, outdoor activities and more.

Council documents showed 330 community submissions for the development application were received, with nearly 200 in support of it.

Highgate Developments managing director Andrew Pitcher said the council had given approval before the August meeting to build eight cabins and a 14-megalitre lake and construction began on those in April.

He said the section of the farmstay they were calling “the quarters” would be ready for visitors early in the new year.

“We’re not rushing because we want the proposition to be absolutely right,” Mr Pitcher said.

The developer said they would test the experience out with family and friends before opening to others.

Mr Pitcher said he was providing a farm stay experience “like nothing else” and the site was centrally located on the Sunshine Coast.

“We’re bringing the farm back to the city,” he said.

Farm animals already onsite included miniature galloway cattle, sheep, chickens and donkeys.

The developer said there was an extensive regeneration plan for the site, too, and they had already started planting large native trees, bushes and fruit and vegetable crops.

He said, like many other developers had experienced, that construction over the past two years had been “difficult” and that having a stable crew they had worked with in the past had helped.
