Sunshine Coast residents were left confused and frustrated on Saturday morning after they were told the doors of a pop-up clinic at Nambour State College wouldn’t be opening for over an hour.
The Queensland Health vaccination website stated the clinic would be operating from 8am to 2pm, but residents who lined up ready to get the jab were told by officials that 9:30am was the actual opening time.
One Nambour resident who was inconvenienced by the mix-up was mother Audrey Hooker, who said it was a mission to get her family to the clinic in the first place.
“We are told there are no excuses for not getting vaccinated and that they have got clinics everywhere, so here we are, waiting, waiting, waiting,” Ms Hooker said.
“I've brought a family member here with Type 1 diabetes, he hasn’t had breakfast, it was a mission to get him here being a 16-year-old.”
Dozens of people had no other choice but to leave after hearing the doors wouldn’t be open until 9:30am, due to other commitments.
“I am putting off work for this, and I don't know when my next chance will be to get him vaccinated,” Ms Hooker said.
A Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service spokesperson apologised for the confusion created by the different opening hours information.
“Our school pop up clinics are open 9.30am to 2.30pm today,” the spokesperson told the Sunshine Coast Daily.
“Vaccination is an important way to protect yourself and your family.
“It’s also a great way to ensure we can all get back to doing the things we love.”
The statewide school vaccination blitz on Saturday October 23, includes six Sunshine Coast state schools that are listed below.
Anyone aged 12 and over who was yet to be vaccinated could go to any vaccination clinic today without an appointment.
