Nambour family business destroyed by fire

A family has been left “devastated” after a blaze destroyed part of a Sunshine Coast business last night.

Firefighters will begin an investigation into a fire that has torn through part of the Stihl Shop Nambour.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said three crews were called to the blaze about 8.50pm on February 8, on the corner of Coronation Av and Rigby St.

“Upon arrival there was a large amount of smoke coming from the building,” he said.

Fire crews left the scene about 10.40pm.

The Kendray family has run the business since parents Andrew and Catherine bought the shop in 2016.

Daughter Georga Kendray said she and her two sisters worked there along with her parents and other staff.

“It’s not just work, it is family,” she said.

Mrs Kendray said she was “devastated” and in shock as she watched flames and smoke billow out of her shop.

“We’ve just got to try and pull it together and get back up and running,” she said.

The owner vowed to rebuild.

“We love Nambour, we service a fabulous community,” Mrs Kendray said.

Georga said the shop was “a bit of a mess” with most of the damage in the workshop.

“I think it’s also really devastating, especially just the amount of work we now have to do,” she said.

Georga said there was water and smoke damage throughout the shop and a big clean-up effort was required.

She said her family could not “catch a break” after her father had a workplace accident that left him with broken ribs and internal bleeding only a few months ago.

She said she could not put a dollar figure on the damage at this early stage but it was “not cheap”.

“We’re lucky, we have a good team here and Nambour is a good community, we’ve already had messages from customers offering to help,” Georga said.

The fire spokesman said a fire investigator would return to the scene today.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the blaze was non-suspicious.
