IT was a night for builders throughout Queensland to shine.

The 2016 Master Builders Queensland Housing and Construction Awards at the Royal International Convention Centre, Brisbane, celebrated the best in an industry important to the state economy.

The Sunshine Coast was again strongly represented among the finalists, particularly in display and individual housing.

In the construction awards, Ausmar Homes took out the Sporting Facilities up to $5million for the Maroochy River Golf Club, while Hutchinson Builders won the Health Facilities up to $5million award for Gympie Radiology.

"It was a good mix of buildings that have won state awards this year - from display homes and entry-level homes through luxury homes and some commercial projects,'' Master Builders Sunshine Coast regional manager Will Wilson said.

"The mix of work is an indication of the healthy construction industry at all levels on the Sunshine Coast.

"It is good to see a Gympie project win at state level.

"Congratulations to our deserving winners on showing Queensland what the Sunshine Coast is capable of."

In the housing awards, it was double celebrations for J Co Constructions, a local builder operating since 2012.

Builder Joe McGuirk had already been a dual award winner, taking out the 2015 Sunshine Coast President's award and now winning the Queensland Individual Home $251,000-$350,000.

Muir Developments took out Individual Home $351,000-$450,000 with Orange Is The New Black: a striking split-level home at Buderim.

That was followed by DJ Sommer Homes winning Individual Home $551,000-$650,000 for a charming colonial-style homestead at Maleny.

Integrale Homes won Display Home $301,000 - $350,000 for The Seaview at Birtinya, while Morayfield builder McLachlan Special Projects had two properties as finalists including The Bondi at Birtinya but won Display Home over $501,000 with The Rosewood at Burpengary.

Rycon Constructions took out Medium Density up to three storeys - two to five dwellings for a stylish Noosaville duplex.

Master Builders' CEO Grant Galvin congratulated the winners across all 53 categories.

"The State Housing & Construction Awards carry a long and distinguished history of showcasing the absolute best in the industry, and the level of competition among this year's entrants is unsurpassed," Mr Galvin said.

"Over the past couple of months our awards program has travelled through nine regions across the state, each recognising the wide-spread talent and expertise of our industry.

"Each winner was then given the opportunity to represent their region at the prestigious Queensland Housing and Construction Awards, which, after 29 years, continue to be sought after by the state's top builders and tradespeople.

"We are incredibly proud of every winner and wish them the best of luck as a selection of winners is put forward to compete against the best from each state in their respective categories at the National Excellence in Building & Construction Awards."
