A shirtless man has been caught on camera after he allegedly crashed into two parked cars, attacked the witnesses and fled the scene before being arrested.
Sunshine Coast Police have charged a 30-year-old Peregian Beach man over a crash on Tuesday morning.
Police confirmed the arrest was related to a video of the alleged assault and incident which surfaced on Instagram this week.
In the video the man can be seen at the scene of the crash speaking to witnesses.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the Peregian Beach man was allegedly driving a Toyota Hiace at 3am on Tuesday morning when it crashed into two parked cars, causing damage.
“It is alleged when witnesses attempted to keep the man at the scene, he assaulted a 21-year-old man before fleeing on foot,” she said.
“A short time later, police were called to an alleged disturbance at an Alexandra Parade venue.
“It is alleged the Peregian Beach man became involved in a verbal altercation with a 41-year-old Mountain Creek man.
“It is further alleged the Peregian Beach man struck the 41-year-old man in the face, before leaving the area.”
Police quickly tracked down the man, chased him on foot, and arrested him.
The man was taken into custody and charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, possession of a dangerous drug, common assault, and two counts of obstruct police officer.
He was also issued with a Notice To Appear for assault, and fail to remain at a traffic crash.
The 30-year-old Peregian Beach man is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on January 17, 2025.
