THE VIEW is amazing from so many areas of 305 North Maleny Rd, Maleny, but the entry will take your breath away.

This luxury retreat, sold at auction for $2.78m with RE/MAX Hinterland at the weekend, following strong marketing. The campaign attracting two cashed-up buyers who registered to bid and there were also several conditional parties waiting in the wings.

Referred to as the Grand Design of Maleny, this impeccable masterpiece on acreage attracted several groups at each open home as well as a crowd on auction day.

"Considering the effort and creativity, it is one of those homes you'd expect to see take shape on the television show Grand Designs," auctioneer/co-principal Mark Clayton said. "I don't think I've seen one quite like this."

A 2009 purchase soon saw the renovation begin to take shape. While the floor plan remained the same, a refurbishment with faultless attention to detail began at one end and continued on, with polished concrete and blackbutt timber floors, not one but two unique fireplaces; through to the external VMZinc panel construction. The anodised aluminium Poggenpohl kitchen itself is reputed to have cost $165,000.

The 12m salt water pool is central to the home and is bordered by a spacious, understated entertainment deck where the views will take your breath away.

While the home is magnificent, so too is the 9.71ha parcel with dual road access, two dams and pockets of rainforest with extensive walking tracks to explore.

The home itself features four spacious bedrooms and there is a separate studio cottage for guests or as accommodation for a full time caretaker.

A need to be closer to business interests in Melbourne bought this haven to the auction floor. The two registered bidders, both of whom are Brisbane based, chose to bid by phone. A start of $1.9m was followed with increments of $100k to $2.4m at which point the bids dropped to $50k rises reaching $2.6m. Mark Clayton as auctioneer announced the property was on the market and selling. A lengthy battle ensued in $10k and $5k rises before the hammer fell for $2.78m to the opening bidder.
