Sunshine Coast carpenter Declan Davis has trailer and $30k of tools stolen

A Sunshine Coast tradie is angry at what he says is a lack of police action after his livelihood disappeared into thin air when his locked work trailer containing $40,000 worth of tools was stolen.

A Sunshine Coast tradie is angry at what he says is a lack of police action after his locked work trailer containing $40,000 worth of tools was stolen from his ute.

Declan Davis, 27, of Caloundra, was furious after his carpenter trailer and tools were stolen from the front of his home on August 4.

Mr Davis said he noticed it the next morning when he was leaving for the gym at 5am.

His entire livelihood was in the stolen trailer.

Queensland Police confirmed the theft and are appealing for anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV to contact investigators.

His mate, Will Garland, started a GoFundMe to help out.

“Declan is a Carpenter and his whole life was in his trailer … as a result of the theft Declan can’t work and needs to repurchase everything he has worked so hard for over his career,” he said.

“The loss is well over $30,000 in tools … which will be a struggle for anyone trying to repurchase to be able to continue to work to support himself.”

The angered carpenter said he knocked on his neighbours’ doors to check if they’d seen or heard anything, or had any CCTV footage, before presenting to the Caloundra police station.

“I just waited a day or so for police to tell me the neighbours hadn’t seen anything … which I’d already told them,” Mr Davis said.

“I haven’t been able to work since. I have insurance for the trailer so am waiting on that. But I don’t know whether to repurchase the tools or wait and see what police and insurance can do for me.

“I’m pissed off. I’m the third tradie I know of to have this happen here in a few months time.

“It just keeps happening here.

“At this point I don’t know whether I should take matters into my own hands or whether if I do something I’d get into trouble.

“I live in an estate with cameras everywhere. They’re at all the entries and exits. Their faces and number plates would have been caught on film somewhere.

“I don’t know what to do. It feels like there’s nothing you can do.”

One of Mr Davis’ mates, Judd Hulls, still hasn’t gotten his stolen tools back following a similar robbery in mid April this year.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman previously said they were investigating the theft of Mr Hulls’ trailer.

Mr Davis said he thought the culprits knew exactly what they were doing.

“I think they’re proper professionals. The trailer was locked and my car was parked in between two cars and there was no damage to any of them,” he said.

“They’re thieves who know there’s a lot of money in tools.

“Really sad too because I’d just spent about $9,000 updating some of my older tools.

“I can’t make any money or keep living without my tools.

“Luckily I’m pretty close with the builder I work for and he can lend some tools but it’s still really difficult and I can’t go on like that.

“I just don’t know what to do and am waiting on the cops. It’s really frustrating.”
