Reigning Queensland champion trainer Tony Gollan has named two of his stable’s best chances ahead of the Summer racing carnival.
With more than $22m in prize money and bonuses across 10 weeks, racing will kick off with the Mooloolaba Cup at the Sunshine Coast on November 19 before meets at Gold Coast, Doomben, Eagle Farm and Toowoomba.
The nine-time consecutive Queensland metropolitan premiership trainer said he was proud of how his three-year-old gelding All That Pizzazz had returned following three wins and one second from four starts in his debut campaign.
“I think he’s a really nice horse and one I particularly like,” Gollan said.
“He’s not a big horse but he’s got a really big action, is lovely to train as he does everything you want and is versatile in all conditions.
“I think he’s a real horse to watch out for across the Summer carnival.”
Gollan, who leads the metropolitan standings by 17 wins over Chris Waller and Robert Heathcote, said his stable’s new runner Golden Boom sired from Spirit Of Boom was one to watch.
“He’s a really impressive horse who hasn’t got to the races yet obviously but is a three-year-old debuting possibly at the end of the week,” he said.
“He’s one that we’re pretty excited about with a lovely action and demeanour about him, an awfully high cruising speed and can quicken off as well.
“He’s a pretty exciting horse for the stable, there’s a bit of x-factor about him although we don’t really know how good he is yet as he’s still pretty untapped and pretty raw but it didn’t surprise us how well he went at the trials.”
Gollan would also look to defend his 2021 Swiss Ace Plate title thanks to standout runner Zoustyle.
“He was breathtaking when fresh, off that big break and to break the track record up there last year was special so I don’t think I’ll have any like him but I will have some nice short course horses to try and defend that race,” he said.
