The halfway point has arrived for the 2021/2022 horse racing season with a number of top trainers and jockeys separating themselves from the rest of the competition.

After last season’s success it’s Stuart Kendrick who is leading the trainers table once again while James Orman is on top for the jockeys.

The Daily has taken a look at which trainers and jockeys are performing with the best strike rates to better help steer you through the form guide.

Jockeys

Tiffani Brooker

Starts 123 – 1st 20, 2nd 11, 3rd 14 – Win 16.26%, Place 36.59%.

Brooker has had the most starts at the Sunshine Coast track ahead of any other jockey this year and is proving herself against the elite competition.

With an average winning price of $9.91 it’s clear to see why her partnership with trainer Stuart Kendrick is unmatched this season.

James Orman

Starts 105 – 1st 23, 2nd 20, 3rd 18 – Win 21.9%, Place 58.1%.

Coming off a career best 2021 season, Orman currently sits at the top of the Sunshine Coast jockeys’ leaderboard with a strike rate that simply can’t be ignored.

What’s even more interesting is from 24 starts over 2000m, Orman has recorded eight wins and three placings, which is a top sign for those rare Queensland staying races.

Ryan Maloney

Starts 76 – 1st 20, 2nd 13, 3rd 16 – Win 26.32%, Place 64.47%.

After making the move from Victoria to Queensland in 2018, the Group 1 winning jockey has not looked back and was quick to become one of the punters’ favourites.

Maloney currently has the best win and place percentage of any jockey at the Sunshine Coast track and has a terrific strike rate under the big three of Stuart Kendrick, Tony Gollan and David Vandyke.

Leah Kilner

Starts 73 – 1st 15, 2nd 5, 3rd 12 – Win 20.55%, Place 43.84%.

Arguably one of Queensland’s current golden girls, Kilner has continued on from her early season success under the respected tutelage of leading trainer Robert Heathcote.

Her work from the inside barriers has been key as the pair currently share a strike rate of 18.9 and 46.8 per cent overall.

Zac Lloyd

Starts 57 – 1st 10, 2nd 11, 3rd 4 – Win 17.54%, Place 43.86%.

The son of former leading jockey Jeff Lloyd and brother to rising star Jaden, Zac Lloyd has continued to build on his impressive 2021 performances.

The leading provincial apprentice jockey sits four wins ahead of second place Tiffani Brooker and is continuing to blossom under trainers Toby and Trent Edmonds.

Trainers

Stuart Kendrick

Starts 189 – 1st 32, 2nd 26, 3rd 30 – Win 16.93%, Place 46.55%.

Trainer Stuart Kendrick’s racing stable is on track for their sixth trainers’ premiership in the past six years as he leads second place by a margin of 19 wins.

Kendrick’s non-stop work at the Sunshine Coast and his work alongside leading jockeys Tiffani Brooker and James Orman is a clear reason for his success this season.

Tony Gollan

Starts 66 – 1st 13, 2nd 8, 3rd 12 – Win 19.7%, Place 50%.

Queensland powerhouse Tony Gollan is once again proving why he is the state's best with his stable’s top draw performances at the Sunshine Coast.

Gollan’s winning strike rate alongside the trio of Ryan Maloney, Ben Thompson and Stephanie Thornton has been vital for his runners this season.

Steven O‘Dea and Matthew Hoysted

Starts 51 – 1st 12, 2nd 8, 3rd 8 – Win 23.53%, Place 54.9%.

After starting the season with an incredible strike rate of 70 per cent, trainers Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted have continued on with their impressive season statistics.

Jockeys Boris Thornton and Baylee Nothdurft have been the stable’s greatest threats this season as the pair continue to build on their imposing record.

Toby and Trent Edmonds

Starts 48 – 1st 11, 2nd 7, 3rd 8 – Win 22.92%, Place 54.17%.

The father and son team have proven their stable’s complete versatility this season with leading strike rates at the Sunshine Coast ranging from 1000 to 2000m races.

Besides Ipswich the Sunshine Coast is their best performing track and when paired with jockeys Zac Lloyd or Robbie Fradd their runners are hard to look past.

David Vandyke

Starts 40 – 1st 8, 2nd 9, 3rd 3 – Win 20%, Place 50%.

Group 1 winning trainer David Vandyke is the perfect example of a trainer not overdoing their hand.

From just 40 starts, Vandyke’s incredible record at the Sunshine Coast speaks for itself, with a further five of his eight winners this season being maidens.
