The race for positions in the QAFL’s top eight is on at breakneck speed, with just five rounds weeks remaining until the first of the finals on August 30.
Coorparoo’s dramatic upset victory over the front running Noosa recently has thrown a cat among the pidgeons, while also highlighting the race for the title is wide open despite the form of Morningside and Aspley, and the presence of both Sherwood and Noosa near the top of the table all season.
BUMPER 180+ GALLERY OF THE SEASON - SO FAR
And this weekend there is an early semi-final when Redland-Victoria Point play Labrador. Both teams were chasing eighth position.
The ladder is about to become distorted as a series of byes disrupt the flow of the competition.
The top eight ladder: Sherwood 52, Aspley 48, Noosa 48, Morningside 42, PBC 34, Coorparoo 30, Wilston Grange, 28, Redland Victoria Point 22..
So who will finish where?
Here’s a peek at where you side could finish after last Saturday’s round was highlighted by Mt Gravatt’s first win of the season.
With Riley King kicking four goals, the Vultures soared to 12-6-78 to beat Broadbeach (3-2-20) away.
Mt Gravatt set up their win with a strong second term and an even better third quarter effort.
It was a tremendous moment for the Vultures, a group which has never thrown the towel in this season.

The Road Ahead
Sherwood (52)
Bye
Labrador (away)
Noosa (home)
Broadbeach (home)
Morningside (away)
After beating Coorparoo 11-10-76 to 5-8-38 last weekend, Sherwood were well positioned and will finish top two - but they face huge games against Noosa and Morningside. We predict they can roll through unbeaten and retain top of the table status on percentage.
Aspley (48)
Wilston Grange (away)
Morningside (away)
Surfers Paradise (home)
Bye
Mt Gravatt (away)
Aspley’s players will fall back on experiences endured during the heartbreak of the 2024 season when the front runners faded late.
The away clash with Morningside in two weeks is pivotal. Lets give them four wins to finish on 64 points and a top two finish.
Last weekend they generated 27 shots at goal in beating Redland Victoria Point.
Noosa (48)
Bye
Surfer Paradise (away)
Sherwood (away)
PBC (away)
Coorparoo (home)
Noosa has a demanding run which includes two away matches against Sherwood and PBC and a big rematch against THe Kings in the final home and away game. Lets give them at least two wins, more likely three, to enable them to remain third.
Morningside (42)
Bye
Aspley (home)
Redland-Victoria Point (away)
Maroochydore (away)
Sherwood (home)
There is a winning culture in the Panthers after the deeds of ‘24. The premiers know how to win in big matches. An early semi-final looms when the Panthers host Aspley in two weeks and then Sherwood in one month. If they win one of those games, Morningside will be well placed to roll through the rest of the winter unbeaten. They are secure in the top four.
Palm Beach Currumbin (34):
Surfers Paradise (away)
Broadbeach (home)
Bye
Noosa (home)
Redland (home)
A last round, home ground ambush of the travelling Noosa will loom in five weeks. Before then let’s predict PBC beat the Demons and Cats before resting for a bye ahead of the Noosa showdown. Let’s lean toward Noosa winning that, but will anyone be surprised if PBC get the chocolates? Theywill be snug in fifth place.
Coorparoo (30)
Bye
Broadbeach (away)
Labrador (home)
Noosa (away)
Coorparoo have at times enjoyed a Cinderella return to the top tier colts competition, with another chapter written two weeks ago when the Kings downed Noosa.
But can they win the rematch against Noosa in a month?
Coorparoo have the potential to win last three matches and finish on 42 points and make the top six. But we will give Noosa victory in the final game of the season but they should still march into the finals - and deseveredly so.
Wilston Grange (28)
Mt Gravatt (away)
Maroochydore (home)
Surfers Paradise (away)
bye
Seventh placed Wilston Grange have been pencilled in for three wins over the last month and as a result look well placed to palm off the chasing Labrador (20 points currently, position No.9)..
The players hung tough against Noosa two weeks ago, losing by just three goals in a tight, defensive affair. Then last weekend they were competitive against PBC, but did lose by 33 poiints. We predict Wilston Grange to win its final three games, therefore making the finals.
Redland Victoria-Point (22)
The Sharks were just ahead of Labrador in the race for the top eight.
Big matches will come their way against Aspley and Morningside, both are away games.
It is a tense, toss of the coin to see if Redland-Victoria Point make it from the other big improvers of the competition, Labrador.
Both the Sharks and Tigers have rebounded splendidly this season after doing the hard yards in 2023 and 2024.

After Redland and Labrador play each other this weekend, Redland Victoria Point have a bye and then will play the Panthers, Mt Gravatt and PBC.
Labrador will play Sherwood and then have a bye before finishing with Coorparoo and Broadbeach in a local derby which could decide their fate.
Out of contention is Maroochydore (12), Surfers Paradise (12), Broadbeach (8) and Mt Gravatt (4).
Labador players have shown plenty of spirit and improvement this season and will be motivated to play their best footy over the next month. So any game against them is a danger match - just as the Panthers’ players after they had to fight hard last round for a 21 point margin.
