Kawana Waters State College student Tiana Rew is training six days a week as she eyes a gold medal three-peat at a national schools boxing championship.

The Shamrock Boxing Gym prodigy recently took out the under 15 title at the Australian Club Championships in Adelaide on May 21 before winning via walkover at the Queensland State Titles in Brisbane on May 28.

The 13-year-old, who has only been involved in the sport for four years, said she was proud of her recent performances.

“The club champs was a great experience across all three days of boxing and then to win by forfeit at the Queensland Titles wasn’t what I was hoping for,” she said.

“I am hoping to get some more local bouts but it’s very hard at the moment to get girls my age, weight and those who have had a similar amount of fights.”

Rew said she now hopes to compete at the Australian Schools Boxing Championships in Adelaide from July 4.

“Fingers crossed, I’m hoping to get into the junior Queensland team to attend South Australia which is then a pathway for the World Boxing Champs in November,” she said.

“I’m currently training six days a week with my coaches Kip Daddo and Mike Foley and when I’m not with them I’m either at the pool or in the gym working on my strength and conditioning with Jarrod Bolton.”

Rew’s string of success follows on from her 2022 U15 Australian title victory in Melbourne.

The fast rising boxing talent was currently under a flexible learning arrangement with KWSC which allows her to study and focus on her sporting passion.

With Rew outlining her aims of making it to the professional ranks, head coach Mike Foley said she shared similarities to undefeated star, Skye Nicolson.

“We endeavour to work hard to find the talent and she’s an extraordinary young boxer,” Foley said.

“She’s giving age away to fight in Hervey Bay on June 10 but she’s got the skill, the know-how and she’s developing a strong boxing IQ.

“The world's her oyster and she knows the harder she trains, the more effort she puts in, the sweeter the rewards but we’re always striving to get better and better.”
