A stunning new salon in a Sunshine Coast suburb recently opened as the labour of love between a longtime hairdresser and her tradie partner.

Sarenity Hair and Extensions owner Sarah Gee open her salon in Nambour six weeks ago with the help of her partner Brendan.

Her partner spent every spare moment to build the fit out designed by the couple with no prior experience.

“We have literally put our own blood, sweat and tears into it,” she said.

“He is an amazing builder that I’ve been so blessed with that is incredible at his craft, at the most highest quality standards I’ve ever seen and has literally made his girl’s dreams come true.”

The 29-year-old said she started hairdressing as an apprentice at 14 years old and had hoped to open her own salon ever since.

She first opened her business from home more than four years ago.

“I thought home was it. But it wasn’t – there was a burning desire, I knew I was here for more, I knew I had a higher purpose,” Ms Gee said.

She reflected something had been holding her back from letting her “real dream come to life”, going on a journey of “self-discovery” and investing in herself.

“I was letting limited beliefs, conditioning, fear, family paths, people pleasing and perfectionism hold me back, I didn’t believe the life I wanted was even possible,” she said.

Ms Gee, with a desire to help, inspire and lead, wanted to create a safe space and change the hairdressing culture, saying it can be a “nasty place” at times.

Her own terrible past experiences “ignited the fire inside” and became a driving force to create a space to “uplift, encourage and empower” her team members.

Ms Gee said she also aimed to create a welcoming atmosphere for clients to enjoy some self-care time.

“I have implemented a few little touches that have helped me along my self-growth journey,” she said.

“These last few weeks I’ve finally stepped into the reality of my dreams to establish a salon space of Sarenity, (which) you’ll soon feel it’s not just an ordinary salon space.”

Her next goal lies in the mentoring side of the industry, hoping to share her own journey to help others follow their own.

The past few weeks have been “huge in the salon” and Ms Gee is excited to see what for is to come.

“I am so proud of the salon that Brendan and I have created, and I am beyond grateful for all of the support and encouragement from my friends, family, and clients,” she said.

She hopes her story will inspire others to chase their dreams and never give up on what “sets your soul on fire.“
