A Toowoomba man has been arrested for a bizarre alleged break in at a Sunshine Coast surf club where vehicles were stolen to pull a bogged car from a beach.
Police responded to the strange alleged break and enter at the Mudjimba Surf Life Saving Club when lifeguards got to work last week to find three of their vehicles on the beach.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman alleged the 31-year-old broke into the business overnight between Monday and Tuesday where a number of vehicles were stolen.
These cars were found a short time later on Mudjimba Beach.
It’s understood the driver’s Subaru was bogged on the beach when he allegedly tried to use the vehicles to tow himself out of the sand.
He then allegedly bogged the three other vehicles.
A 31-year-old Toowoomba man was charged with three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one of enter dwelling and commit an indictable offence.
His matter was mentioned in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Tuesday and adjourned until the following day.
Sunshine Coast Lifesaving Services co-ordinator Shane Urban confirmed no lifeguards were involved in accessing the vehicles but rather a member of the public.
“I can categorically say there was no lifeguard involvement with the vehicles going onto the beach,” Mr Urban said.
“There was no serious damage done to any assets, and nothing impeded on their lifeguarding capabilities on that day.
“It wasn’t something we were involved with but had to deal with the following day when the crew arrived.”
