A 24-year-old man sent his ex-partner’s mother a series of threatening and “disgusting” text messages, a Sunshine Coast court has heard.
Zach Lee George John Bamber appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court from the dock on Tuesday morning, where he pleaded guilty to five charges including three fail to appear charges, using a carrier service to harass and possess a drug utensil.
But the most serious charge he faced was sending vile messages and threats to his ex-partner’s mother.
Police prosecutor David Hoffman said the woman received a number of texts from Bamber, including a threat to ‘duct tape (her) mouth’.
“The first message from the defendant was ‘lick my n--- motherf----- haha’,” he said.
Senior Constable Hoffman went on to say Bamber claimed drugs “got him”.
Duty lawyer Kylie Anderson said her client had mental health issues and received monthly injections.
She said he had been estranged from his family, and was living at a hostel in Noosa at the time.
However, she did not disclose why Bamber sent the text messages in the first place.
The court heard Bamber had failed to appear in court three times over a three-year period, and after being arrested on a warrant, was found with a used marijuana pipe in his pocket.
He was fined $900 and sentenced to 14 days behind bars, suspended for three months.
A conviction was recorded.
