A 33-year-old man angry about a complaint relating to his “rowdy” children allegedly slapped and headbutted an elderly man at a Yandina Pub.

Zac Arthur Bowels was having dinner with a large group at the Yandina Hotel when he allegedly attacked a man who was aged over 60 on September 3.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Nick Nitschke said the hotel manager asked Mr Bowels’ “rowdy” group to control the behaviour of their children.

“ (Mr Bowels) became defensive about the request by the manager demanding to know who complained,” he said.

Sergeant Nitschke said Mr Bowels’ negative behaviour continued for 45 minutes until he approached the elderly man and verbally abused him saying he would be “hit by a young man”.

“ … (Mr Bowels) then slapped the victim, tried to slap the victim again and then headbutted the victim pushing him backward,” he said.

“The young child who was with … (Mr Bowels) has tried pulling him backwards to try stop the assault.”

Sergeant Nitschke told the court the victim suffered a cut to his nose and bleeding.

He said an ambulance was called but the victim was treated by a doctor the following day.

Mr Bowels originally entered a plea of guilty in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday to serious assault of a person over 60, but withdrew his plea when duty lawyer Ben Rynderman disagreed with the brief of evidence.

Mr Rynderman said he was provided with facts that did not include any mention of injuries.

He said it increased the severity of the charge and he would need to take more instructions.

Magistrate Maxine Baldwin said she would adjourn the matter so Mr Rynderman could speak with Mr Bowels.

The matters was adjourned to October 29.
