Woman killed in crash in Tanawha, Sunshine Coast

Investigations are continuing into the mysterious death of a 29-year-old Tamborine woman after her car crashed into a ditch alongside the Bruce Highway, claiming her life.

Police are piecing together the final moments of a 29-year-old Tamborine woman who tragically lost her life in a car crash in Tanawha.

A passing motorist sounded the alarm about 4.30pm Sunday, February 27 after she found the woman laying on the side of the Bruce Highway and Sunshine Motorway off ramp.

A passer-by rendered first aid near the intersection of Frizzo Connection Rd and Cunning Rd before they flagged down a police officer driving past.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and helped conduct CPR alongside the pair but the 29-year-old woman died from her injuries.

Police say the injuries were not considered to be flood-related however they believe she was caught during the floods due to parts of the Bruce Hwy being closed.

Her white 1985 Ford Falcon Station Wagon was found in a nearby ditch alongside a pet dog who survived the crash.

Witnesses and those with dashcam footage of the vehicle driving on or near Frizzo Connection Road prior to and including the crash have been asked to come forward.

Sunshine Coast Police district duty officer Senior Sergeant Steve Hall said early inquiries suggest the woman left the roadway, travelled through a safety fence, median strip and highway before coming to a stop.

“We do believe the deceased was an occupant of the vehicle, we’re not sure if there was any other vehicles that were involved or what circumstances had occurred,” he said.

“We’re asking that if anyone did witness an event where a white Ford Falcon station wagon was seen in the area about 4.15pm or 4.20pm this afternoon, to ring police link or Crimestoppers.”

Senior Sergeant Hall said the dog squad had been called to help with the investigation as it was unclear if anyone else was involved in the crash.

“The dog squad were deployed to try to allow us to ascertain whether there was a second party in the vehicle that may have well decamped the scene, that’s a normal part of any investigation,” he said.
