Emergency services have detailed the swift rescue efforts after a surfer fell 15m from a cliff at Noosa National Park and fractured both of his ankles.

Paramedics, fire fighters and lifeguards rushed to Tea Tree Bay following reports a surfer aged in his 50s had fallen from a popular walking track just before 3pm.

Queensland Ambulance Service’s Annette Morris said the man was flown to hospital in a stable condition with fractures in both of his feet and ankles.

Crews credited the efforts of witnesses and surfers who were quick to come to his aid and call triple-0.

“He had a friend, a surfer who was with him at the time, who helped put him in a safe area on the rocks because he actually did fall in the water and couldn’t remove himself from those rocks,” Ms Morris said.

“It’s great to see the surfing community looks out for each other.”

She said he was in “excessive” pain.

“We had a lot of pain relief to reduce his pain enough to actually move him and do the patient care, the splinting of both ankles, to get him in the basket ready for the airlift,” she said.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service’s Harley Cross said multiple fire crews attended with some abseiling down the cliff.

He said a rescue helicopter was deemed the best way to get the man to safety, but crews also explored another option of bringing him up the mountain with ropes.

Mr Cross said the man fell while he was attempting to get to the water for a surf.

Noosa lifeguard Isaac Smith said lifeguards provided assistance to emergency service crews.

He urged surfers to stick to the main tracks and be careful.

“It’s not uncommon when we have surf in Noosa we can get 2-3000 boardriders around the headland and unfortunately accidents happen like they have today,” he said.

“So we’d ask everyone to be careful and stick to the main tracks.”

It comes after a man in his 50s was winched to safety and flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition after he reportedly fell about 20m while hiking on Mt Tibrogargan on September 20, 2022.
