A Sunshine Coast man who was arrested by detectives investigating the exploitation of children online has faced court for the first time.
Peter Joseph Curby has been on strict police bail ever since he was charged with child exploitation material offences on June 9.
In a statement, police alleged detectives from Task Force Argos, the specialist Queensland Police unit responsible for investigating child sexual abuse online, raided the 49-year-old’s Nambour home and seized his electronic devices as part of their investigation.
Police allege Curby used the internet to access child abuse material between May 18 and June 9.
It’s further alleged he was found with child exploitation material on June 9 at the time of the search warrant.
He was charged with using a carriage service to access child abuse material and possessing child exploitation material.
The man was granted police bail and appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday.
Duty lawyer Michael Robinson asked for a brief of evidence due to the charges having to be finalised in the higher court.
Mr Robinson said he also gave advice on how Curby could apply for Legal Aid.
Magistrate Raelene Ellis granted this and adjourned Curby’s matters to August 2025.
He was already on strict bail which was continued by Ms Ellis.
