Noosa Shire parking inspectors allegedly attacked by man in Cooroy

Two council parking inspectors were allegedly assaulted in a Noosa hinterland town after an elderly man thought they were giving him a parking ticket.

Two Noosa shire council parking inspectors were allegedly assaulted by an elderly man after he thought they were giving him a parking ticket.

Police charged a man in his 70s after he allegedly assaulted a 62-year-old man and 44-year-old woman who worked for Noosa Shire Council on Maple St about 11am on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

Cooroy Police officer in charge Mal Scott said the elderly man “took exception” to the parking officers marking his tyres for time limits and approached them.

Sergeant Scott said an argument ensued before the man allegedly threw punches at the male parking inspector.

It’s alleged by police the man then attacked the female parking inspector and punched her in the mouth.

When officers arrived the man had been restrained by the two alleged victims and bystanders.

He was charged with two counts of serious assault of a public officer and possession of a knife.

The man will face Noosa Magistrates Court on July 19, 2022.
