A Sunshine Coast concreter and suspected member and known associate of the Rebels Motorcycle Club has been fined for his violent outburst in the smoking area of a Gladstone pub.

Nathan Peter John Dyson, 27, was given a total fine of $1100 for the two offences of affray and contravening a requirement given by a police officer after pleading guilty in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on August 24, 2022.

Police prosecutor Nick Nitschke said the Sunshine Coast branch of the Rebels Motorcycle Club participated in a run up to Mackay between June 24 and 26 this year.

Sergeant Nitschke told the court approximately 15 – 20 known members and associates participated in the run, with Dyson being a suspected member and known associate of the gang.

Dyson was in the smoker’s area of a nightclub in Gladstone when he started a conversation with a man and quickly became aggressive, the court heard.

Sergeant Nitschke said Dyson smashed his tumbler glass on the ground and pushed the man before punching him once in the head.

“The attack was completely unprovoked,” he said.

Security officers intervened and Dyson proceeded out onto Goondoon St along with several other men.

Once in the middle of the road, Dyson exchanged several more punches with the same man before leaving prior to police arriving.

Defence solicitor Jason Jacobson said the first punch was only a “light connection”.

Mr Jacobson said his client worked as a concreter, had a limited criminal history and was apologetic for his actions.

Magistrate Rod Madsen did not record a conviction against Dyson.
