A Rosemount tradie has had a sobering “wake-up call” after he blew more than three times the limit following a drunken crash into a wall in Palmwoods.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard on Monday July 11, 2022 Lachlan Jake Thorne had also failed to stop for police on the evening of May 15, 2022.

Police prosecutor Nick Nitschke told the court the 23-year-old Rosemount man had been driving along Woombye Palmwoods Rd about 12.10am when he was seen by police.

Sergeant Nitschke said Thorne drove his Nissan Navara Dual cab at speed, turned his lights off, travelled through two roundabouts and failed to stop for police.

The court heard police lost sight of the vehicle once and activated their lights while Thorne continued to drive “at excessive speed”.

Police then came across Thorne’s car after he crashed into a low stone wall, damaging one of his front tyres.

Sergeant Nitschke said Thorne reversed into the cop car which had pulled up behind them then drove 30m down the road before he finally stopped.

The court heard Thorne’s blood alcohol reading was 0.151 per cent.

Defence solicitor Jacob Pruden said his client had spent the night in the lock up and said many of his client’s friends and associates had become aware of his drunken crash.

Mr Pruden said Thorne labelled the crash in his own words as a “wake-up call”.

Thorne pleaded guilty to drink driving, driving without due care and failing to comply with a requirement to stop and was fined $2000.

He was disqualified from driving for seven months with convictions recorded.
