A Nambour man’s drunken rampage which included abusing hospital staff and stealing a mere $25 from a cafe has landed him in court.

Jordan Patrick Underwood, 22, was sentenced to 12 months probation in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Underwood was inside the Nambour Hospital waiting room at 7.40pm on Wednesday when he started to yell abuse at the staff, calling them “whores” and swearing, the court has heard.

He was escorted onto the street by security guards where his loud behaviour continued, the court heard.

He swore and then broke into the nearby Eat Fresh cafe.

Police prosecutor David Hoffman said Underwood punched the main glass door causing it to smash, before kicking the glass panel and causing it to fall.

“The defendant has then entered into the store, gone behind the counter, removed a glass container that contained numerous coins and notes … and ran towards the hospital,” Senior Constable Hoffman said.

“Whilst running, he dropped the glass container but has put a $20 note and $5 note into his pocket.”

At some point during the break in, the fish and chip shop worker had picked up a shard of glass and was using it as a tool to prevent the security guards from approaching him.
