Two women have been sentenced for concealing a man’s blood-soaked shirt after he broke into a house and stabbed another person.

Cianna Janette Doyle, 35, and Brittany Marie Gray-Ferguson, 26, pleaded guilty to one count each of accessory after the fact to a burglary and wounding offence.

Crown prosecutor Alex Stark told the Maroochydore District Court on August 30 that the victim was an ex-partner of Doyle.

Doyle and the victim had been in an on-and-off relationship, and Doyle had driven to his home to recover some items with Gray-Ferguson and a third co-offender on the day of the incident in 2021.

Mr Stark said the victim was sleeping when the man co-offender, wearing a black face mask, broke into his Maroochydore home before he punched and stabbed the victim several times.

The victim had told police he had seen the two women inside the home but they were not charged with any break-in or wounding offences.

Mr Stark told the court Doyle had then driven the trio to the Sunshine Plaza, where they dumped the man’s blood-soaked shirt, and Gray-Ferguson bought a replacement.

The stained shirt was later found in a drain by police.

Defence barrister Jack Kennedy said his client, Doyle, had told police during an interview she did not know the co-offender, but had done so in order to not involve herself with the matter rather than protect the man.

He told the court the 35-year-old was a single mother living on a large property to care for the homeowner who had lost his legs.

Previously working as a freelance model for nine years, Doyle was studying beauty therapy with hopes to open her own business, Mr Kennedy said.

The court heard Doyle lived a “quiet life” as a mother to an eight-year-old daughter, after overcoming past drug issues.

Defence barrister Nicholas Brown said it was admitted his client Gray-Ferguson was struggling with drug issues.

He told the court she had a brief employment at Myer when she left school, and had since predominantly lived off Centrelink payments.

Mr Brown said Gray-Ferguson suffers trauma from several events in her past and had attempted to detox at a hospital but was sent home early after clashing with another attendee.

Judge Glen Cash sentenced Doyle to 12 months’ imprisonment suspended for two years.

Gray-Ferguson was sentenced 18 months’ imprisonment with immediate parole after Judge Cash considered her criminal history.

He told her to stay away from drugs, warning she would either go to jail or “kill herself”.
