Caloundra court: Golden Beach man sentenced for distributing intimate images

A Golden Beach man in his 20s has faced court after distributing intimate images that had been taken of two women and himself during a “massive drug haze”. Read what happened:

A Golden Beach man in his 20s has been slammed by a magistrate for his “disgusting” and “embarrassing” distribution of intimate images taken of himself and two women.

The court heard the man had been dealing with chronic depression when the images were published between the dates of February 1 and April 30, 2021.

The collection of images included photos of two naked women as well as nudes of the man himself.

Magistrate Graham Hillan said the victims could not eat or sleep after the incident and they struggled to leave their rooms.

“It is quite sickening to see that a person has done this … these types of offences are quite disgusting,” Mr Hillan said.

“It’s placed the girls in an embarrassing and despicable situation.”

Solicitor Rowena Ferrall said her client meant no harm to the two women and wishes that it had never happened.

“He does not recall distributing the images although he was in a relationship with them … he did know that he had these images,” Ms Ferrall told the court.

“He is adamant that these were friends of his and they were all in a massive drug haze at the time.”

Ms Ferrall said her client had hit “rock bottom” at this time in his life but had now come out the other side.

“He is ashamed he has had done this to two people he thought very highly of,” she said.

She said her client now had aversions to phones and social media and no longer socialised.

Magistrate Hillan sentenced the man to prison for three months, to be suspended for a period of 18 months.

He will have to pay compensation of $1000 each to each woman.

Convictions were recorded.
