A former Maroochydore concreter who lives in what police claim is a drug den filled with criminals has been refused bail after allegedly breaking into multiple cars and committing frauds with stolen credit cards.
Bail objection documents before the Maroochydore Magistrates Court allege Brodie Stanley Williams was spotted in distinct clothing, including a “large fedora”, jacket and lanyard while fraudulently using stolen cards at shops.
Court documents stated a series of CCTV videos depicted the 34-year-old allegedly going on the spending spree that cost four victims a combined total of almost $500.
Sunshine Coast Property Crime Task Force detectives alleged he used these stolen cards at businesses such as 7/11, Coles Express, and the Duporth Tavern.
Police alleged in the early hours of July 28 and August 8, Stanley broke into cars on Beach Pde, Gardak St, and Parker St with wallets, cards and $500 cash stolen.
Detectives claimed in court documents the 34-year-old also allegedly racked up $258.75 on a woman’s stolen credit card over seven purchases at businesses such as Coles and the Duporth Tavern on August 4.
Police said Stanley was allegedly clearly seen in security footage with the stolen items while donning distinct clothing such as a wide-brimmed hat, green jacket and blue lanyard.
Officers spoke to Stanley about 10am on August 10 at his hostel where he greeted police wearing the exact same clothing from the CCTV seen by police.
When searched by police, they allegedly found multiple ID cards and bank cards belonging to several different people.
Police allegedly traced one of the cards to a Toyota LandCruiser, which was broken into in Maroochydore on July 10, court documents stated.
Bail objection documents stated Stanley was also allegedly found with another stolen bank card taken from her Kia Rio parked in Maroochydore on July 28.
Police alleged his address at a Maroochydore hostel is in the process of being shut down due to the fact it was “filled with drug addicts and criminals”.
Williams faced court by video from the Maroochydore watch house this week charged with 13 offences including five counts of fraud and two counts of entering a premises to commit an indictable offence.
Duty lawyer Michael Robinson said Stanley suffers from mental health issues and was medicated for these problems.
Mr Robinson said there could be some time for the matter to be finalised as well, with the Maroochydore man being able to abide by bail conditions.
Magistrate Chris Callaghan queried where Williams could live with police alleging the 34-year-old lived in a “drug house” which would be shut down, however Williams told the court he had already sorted a new address.
His matter was adjourned from Monday to Tuesday, however his bail was ultimately refused.
The 34-year-old’s matter will be mentioned in Caloundra Magistrates Court on September 19.
