A Sunshine Coast man has been refused bail after he was allegedly found with a sizeable heroin stash when riding illegally on his dad’s motorcycle.
Landsborough man Benjamin James Fischer was arrested this week after a police intercept allegedly revealed the substantial drug haul at Mooloolaba.
Maroochydore Magistrates Court was told of the man’s alleged bust during his push for bail on charges of possessing drugs over the schedule, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing utensils and driving without a licence.
Police allege Fischer was intercepted with a large amount of heroin, a small amount of meth and a glass pipe at a hotel in Mooloolaba on June 15.
It was allegedly discovered by police he was driving without a licence.
Police prosecutor Stephen Potter said it appeared Fischer was on a suspended sentence at the time, and alleged there was strong evidence which included admissions to ownership of the drugs found.
Sergeant Potter said Fischer had prior drug-related matters on his history.
The court was told the Landsborough man wanted to live at Glenview however, the prosecutor believed it was not suitable due to Fischer’s brother listing the same home for his parole address pending his release from jail.
Defence solicitor Sarah Knight said strict bail conditions could be placed on Fischer, who wanted to receive court-mandated drug intervention for his charges.
Ms Knight said the 37-year-old had family support and had been participating in residential drug rehabilitation in the community.
Magistrate Raelene Ellis said the case was strong against Fischer with CCTV allegedly showing him driving without a licence on his father’s motorcycle when drugs were found on him.
Ms Ellis said the Landsborough man was a “regular feature” before the courts, which related to 10 pages of criminal history.
She refused him bail, with his matters to return to court on July 1.
