Kiels Mountain man seriously injured after car rolls, hits power pole

A young driver needed to be cut from the wreckage of his car and was flown to hospital with serious injuries after a dramatic crash on the Sunshine Coast.

Queensland Police has issued a plea for witnesses after a man in his 20s was flown to hospital after a serious crash at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday night.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said 2007 Nissan Patrol ute was travelling west along Diddillibah Rd about 7pm when it left the road and rolled, crashing into a power pole.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the driver, a 29-year-old Kiels Mountain man, suffered back and neck injuries and was flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious condition.

He was freed from the wreckage by firefighters.

Police are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident, to come forward.

Police were also called to Coolum State School on Monday morning after a field was ripped up in an alleged stolen car joyride on the first day of school holidays.

It comes days after another stolen car, allegedly taken from a Landsborough home at gunpoint early on Friday, September 15, crashed into and killed 52-year-old aged care worker Christella (Stella) Tan at Burnside.

A Queensland Police service spokesperson said the white Ford Ranger was allegedly stolen from a Coolum Beach home around 1am Monday.

It was found at the school at 5.25am, after driving through a fence and crashing into a demountable building next to the school’s sport fields.

The fields appeared to have been torn up by a car performing burnouts.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they were called to the scene about 6.30am, but the driver had left already.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said investigations were continuing, and anyone who saw the allegedly stolen car is urged to contact police.

Coolum State School has been contacted for comment.
