Alan James Stirrett pleads guilty to dangerous driving in Caloundra Magistrates Court

A Sunshine Coast man who reversed his car at speed towards a mum parked on the side of the road has fronted court after he planned to contest the facts of the case.

A Maleny man who drove dangerously towards a car carrying two children on a remote road at night has walked away from court without his licence.

Alan James Stirrett, 39, who had pleaded guilty in Caloundra Court on Friday, September 17, to dangerous operation of a vehicle had initially planned to contest the facts of the case but ultimately accepted the prosecution’s evidence against him.

The court heard on a previous occasion, Mr Stirrett had been tailgating a car carrying a woman and two young children along Maleny Montville Road, Balmoral Ridge, about 9.30pm on October 30.

The woman had pulled over to let Mr Stirrett pass and flashed her high beam light at him.

This action resulted in Mr Stirrett pulling his car over before he reversed at speed on two occasions towards the woman’s car.

The woman, who had to reverse her own car at speed to avoid a collision, drove away from the scene when Stirrett walked over to her car.

Police prosecutor Jeanette Grigoris previously told the court the woman drove away at speed but noticed Stirrett following her.

“The defendant only desisted after the victims drove into the Maleny Hospital and sought assistance,” she said in August.

Sergeant Grigoris said the woman and two children continue to be traumatised by the alleged incident and are still “extremely anxious” when travelling in a car.

Stirrett was given a two-year suspended sentence and was disqualified from driving for two years.
