Police are searching for a driver involved in a hit and run incident that caused an 88-year-old woman to be rushed to hospital.

Police are asking for help from the public after a car hit an elderly woman in a Sunshine Coast car park and took off.

Police say the crash occurred on July 25 at a church in Main Street, Buderim.

About 1.50pm, a light-coloured Toyota Aurion sedan had reversed and struck the woman before leaving the car park.

The 88-year-old woman was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with non-life threatening leg injuries.

Investigators are asking for the owner of the Toyota to come forward and is asking anyone who recognises the vehicle or has information about the incident to contact police.

A police investigation continues.
