Rising gelding All That Pizzazz may have been beaten at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday, but the run provided plenty of positives for leading trainer Tony Gollan.
The four-year-old was shifted out to the worst part of the track in the Bat Out Of Hell (1000m) but finished only two lengths off winner Hardware Lane in testing rain-affected ground.
His third placing comes after a second in the Ascot Quality Handicap (1000m) last month.
“They went along really quick and coming from the back we were just trying to get to the right part of the track which was altered twice in the straight,” Gollan said.
“We didn’t think he definitely would’ve won but he would’ve been right there in the finish with the winner had he got the right run through.

“Mark (Zahra) liked the horse, he’s a hard one not to like because he gives you everything all the time.
“Whether it’s a good three or a heavy 10 he tries his heart out and he’s not a very big horse so I was a little bit worried about the weight we’re carrying but he’s got another good race in him hopefully somewhere this carnival.”
With a nomination for the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap on June 15, Gollan said he wanted to hold fire before setting a winter carnival path.
“He’s had two pretty testing runs in two helter skelter races so what we do with him now is something I don’t want to lock in just yet,” he said.
“There’s a few different options for him so he may be Stradbroke bound, we might go to 1200m, he could go to the Moreton Cup, an 1110m in two weeks or even the BRC Sprint.
“He’s such a good little versatile horse so I’ll just let things simmer for a few more days.”
