OPINION:

SOME cyclists really don't make it easy on themselves do they.

I'm more than happy to share the road with them, give them a wide berth and generally co-exist. But gee they make it hard sometimes.

These people have families, children, friends, lives to lead and people that would miss them if they were gone.

But the group of cyclists riding along Alexandra Parade on Friday morning showed no indication they cared about those loved ones they would leave behind.

We'd passed them safely over the top of the headland, giving them more than the required passing distance, and I was generally enjoying the cruise into work after dropping my daughter off.

What happened next was just ridiculous. Two cars were stopped in the left lane as the front car waited to turn left.

As I slowed and other cars began to shift into the right lane to pass my eye caught these flashes of Lycra.

This same crew of cyclists decided instead of sticking in a single-file line in the left lane to start weaving, at speed after flying down Alex hill, through the traffic.

As I was checking my left-side mirror to make sure they were safe more of the idiots were whizzing past me on the right, swerving late to get around the stopped cars, cycling right in front of other vehicles in the right lane.

How one of them didn't get cleaned up I don't know, but it gives other cyclists a bad name.

No one wants to kill anyone on their way to work, so why put yourselves and innocent drivers in a position where that could happen?

Use some brains and a bit of respect, it works both ways.
