VIV, your letter in the Sunshine Coast Daily (March 7) hits a nerve.
I too am a Defence Force Retirement and Death Benefits Scheme (DFRDB) recipient and we are a dying group, and from what I understand of government is that they will continue to supplement our military pension with top-ups from the social security payments and dodge the shrapnel as they protect their patch.
We are no longer DFRDB recipients but became members of the Comsuper Scheme when Keating robbed that golden egg from the DFRDB nest, and we are a bundle within the public service pension scheme.
Sadly, there are thousands of ex-service members who have been duped by the government. For generations, they front Anzac Day, say warm and fuzzy words about the sacrifices made, and place their right hand over their heart yet stand on our throat when the lights are not shining on them.
Mate, stand tall, and write to your representative explaining you will no longer support them or the party. Explain how politicians and parties have trashed the values and standards you cherish. They must understand the policies and party politics have abandoned your wants and needs and you will not support them in the future.
I have done this and will not support those representing the Liberal Party in either state or national government. Politics in Australia is toxic and shallow; the values are to themselves and not the people they represent. I question the standards of all who are elected to all forms of governments.
