IT'S ENCOURAGING that the South-East Queensland City Deal which commits local, State and Federal governments to plan and work together has been signed (Daily, March 16).
Well may we ask why has it taken so long?
Particularly when you look at the planning and project list the deal discusses as possible future priorities and activities.
Big list. Big backlog.
It's going to lead to some interesting discussions and admissions.
Ted O'Brien's fast train needs the Cross River Rail, a project the LNP refused to fund.
We will discover promises we thought were made now are five years away when the funding catches up.
When the grandstanding and chest beating about this deal is over, the question for the Sunshine Coast will still be, how will the needs of the Coast be addressed?
Those things critical to day to day life here that won't appear in the SEQCD.
Particularly as we're at the bottom of the list when many of those needs are considered in normal processes by governments.
We need our own deal.
The Sunshine Coast deal.
