Climate change is the biggest threat to our future

New coal mines will fuel even more extreme droughts, floods and heatwaves, and will only harm Queensland and everyone who lives here.

I WANT to congratulate the Queensland Premier for her Press Club address this week - she is backing Queenslanders by highlighting the threats to our lives and businesses from extreme weather events caused by climate change.

The bullying from Adani and other vested coal interests, particularly multinationals, to dig new coal mines that will fuel even more extreme droughts, floods and heatwaves, will only harm Queensland and everyone who lives here.

Anyone who loves Queensland needs to acknowledge the greatest threat to our future rests with climate change, and we need to prepare for it now.

It's great to see the Queensland Government listening to the science and requiring more research into the impacts of the Adani mine on our water and native birds and animals.

This dangerous coal mine should not go ahead.

Even mining giant Glencore has this week identified climate change as the reason for them to cap coal production.

No-one can afford to stand by and do nothing any more.

Even if it means we have to pay more into the public purse, or live lives which are slightly less convenient, for our children's and grandchildren's sakes, even more than our own, we need to take action on climate change now.
