Check out this weekend's Sunshine Coast homes open for inspection

ABOVE the clouds, this architect-designed dream home offers intriguing design features, brush box floors, soaring ceilings and lots of glass to fully appreciate the 180-degree views of the coast and hinterland.

There is a sense of fun about this place. Designed by Michael Jullyan and built by Beton Constructions with a brief to take advantage of the wide, wide views form Moreton Island to the Glasshouse Mountains.

It reminds you of being on a boat - with large circular windows and a curved roofline like the bow of the ship. There is electronic-gated entry to the property and a large lawn area behind the garden wall. While the residence would now benefit from some TLC, it is open plan to suit the Sunshine Coast lifestyle. There is a kitchen that is central to everything, a very usable dining area with bi-fold doors that can create privacy or be part of the living area, and a great entertaining deck.

The deck has a gas connection for a barbecue. There is also one inside for a heater if needed. Wide brush box, secret nailed flooring has been used on the entry level where all the living space is. A curved glass wall in the south-east makes a picture window for the living area. The ceiling is about 11' high. The kitchen is quite intriguing. It has been raised a couple of steps and features a curved bench at chair height. This is to take full advantage of the outlook...and to bring guests to an eye-level height with anyone behind the bench as it is a dropped floor covered in cork. The benches have a scratch-proof laminate top and mini orb fascia. There is a double sink with those views to the coast.

A compact laundry and guest toilet is off to one side, complete with skylight. The entertaining deck looks over the big front yard of this 800sqm corner block - big enough to take a pool if needed. The dining room has been designed as a versatile, usable space. It has been used as a nursery and guest bedroom but could be an office.

A wall of storage cupboards only to head height is along the northern side of the living area. Above them are bi-fold cedar shutters through from the main bedroom. These act as climate as well as privacy controls. You can enjoy the coastal views from the bed. It is six steps up to the main bedroom from the living area. Sliding cedar louvre doors open to a Juliet balcony on the eastern end and there is a walk-through robe to the ensuite in beach colours. There are no glass-panelled shower screens - just a head height wall dividing the shower from the vanity area. It is tiled on one side and hardwood trimmed on the other.

A secret room is behind the bedroom and robe. It provides a 40sqm home theatre with Bose sound system. The top floor has its own living area with access to an even bigger balcony and even wider views. There is 50sqm of deck with views of Moreton Island and the hinterland. The air conditioned living area has two windows at roof level of what is already a high ceiling.
