An iconic Noosa nightclub is set to reopen this weekend after a “soft opening” was mysteriously revealed through a cryptic social media post.

A short video shared to a newly created social media page named The Rock Noosa account showed the Aqua nightclub sign in Noosa being taken down, along with the caption “it is happening please follow for updates”.

According to the account, the venue on Hastings St will have a “soft opening” this weekend with trading hours of 8pm to 2am.

The post prompted a number of supportive comments, including one which stated “we are so back”.

Another commenter wrote “this is super exciting!!”

The venue, formerly known as the legendary Rolling Rock nightclub, operated on Hastings St for more than 20 years before it was rebranded and reopened under new ownership in 2023.

The nightclub opened in the 90s and hosted a number of A-listers and sports stars including former NRL players Braith Anasta and Willie Mason.

Members of U2’s entourage were rejected from the club in 1998 for wearing open-toed sandals.

Lead singer Bono, guitarist The Edge and drummer Larry Mullen stood by as two of their 16-strong group failed to meet dress regulation requirements.

Former nightclub owner Ken Woods opened the Aqua Lounge and Nightclub in November last year after spending $400,000 bringing the venue back to life following the closure of the Rolling Rock.

The business was then listed for sale in July, less than 12 months after opening.

The sale listing described the venue as the largest nightclub in Noosa, allowing the new buyer to become a “key player” in Noosa’s night-life while providing “significant opportunities” to expand the business.

Mr Woods said he wished the new owners all the best with the venue’s reopening.

“I wish them all the best and it is good for Noosa to have the late night scene back,” Mr Woods said.

The Rock Noosa has been contacted by this publication for comment.
