Plans for a popular resort to conduct a series of “health-focused” upgrades have been submitted to the Noosa Council, outlining additional yoga studios and a restaurant makeover.
The longstanding Noosa Blue Resort submitted plans to the council in March this year, outlining a proposal for a major upgrade that would allow for more yoga studios.
Detailed in the development application for the Noosa Dr resort are the plans to expand the existing indoor sport and recreational space by transforming the current car hire area into a shop/office zone.
The development was initially granted approval in 1996, to include 65 holiday apartments, a restaurant and conference centre as well as an onsite car hire service.
The yoga studio, Aloha Active Noosa, currently operates from the resort and conducts more than 85 classes per week, according to its website.
The documents submitted in the council application stated the yoga studio served visitors to the resort and locals, and many lived within walking distance.
“The yoga studio seeks to expand and create a health focus,” the documents stated.
“On ground level, an additional yoga studio space is proposed in approximately half of the current cafe/restaurant.
“On level one the kitchen will be removed and a treatment focused health spa with interchangeable facilities.”
A proposed floor plan for the health spa includes two plunge pools, a sauna and multiple treatment rooms.
The documents stated the new “health studios” would replace the resort’s current restaurant and car hire facility, but leave the outdoor dining as is to serve more health-focused food.
“The proposal is to expand the health studios by reducing the size of the approved restaurant, as well as allowing for a variety of interchangeable uses (shop / office / yoga studio) within the existing car hire tenancy,” the documents stated.
“The restaurant, which includes the outdoor dining area will continue to operate, however change operators specialising in health food.”
Public submissions on the proposed health studios and resort upgrades will close on May 14, 2024.
